My Story
I built OpenUp because I needed it myself.
I'm from Tamil Eelam — the Tamil homeland in the north and east of Sri Lanka. I now live in the UK. Like a lot of people who move countries alone, I felt something I did not expect — digital loneliness. Surrounded by social media but genuinely disconnected from the people on it.
I watched people perform happiness for likes. I watched myself do the same. I got tired of it.
So I started building something different. Alone. No investors. No team. No budget. Just a laptop, a mission, and a lot of late nights.
OpenUp is that mission. A social platform where kindness matters more than popularity. Where you can say what you actually feel without performing it for an algorithm. Where a stranger's support at 3am is worth more than a thousand likes.
The Kindness Score was the first thing I designed. Because I wanted to build a platform where the most valuable thing you could do was simply be kind to another human being. Not go viral. Not gain followers. Just be kind.
Every feature on OpenUp — the Vent Box, SoulSync, the Hope Jar, Time Capsule, Yuhi — exists to answer one question:
Does this make someone feel less alone?
That is the only question that matters here.
I am still building. Still learning. Still figuring it out one late night at a time.
But if OpenUp has ever made you feel even slightly less alone — then it was worth every single one of them.
